Do ornaments come in skull shapes? Those would be much more interesting than all these round ones.

( 835 Hastings Boulevard, front yard )

[ Amongst all the forgetting and sadness, there is one house that looks to have bucked the dreary trend. Amaimon has taken the giant tree the town has as its own Christmas tree as a challenge and has proceeded to decorate the hell out of his quaint little suburban home. Everything is covered in lights. Every damn inch out of the outside he could find Christmas lights for, especially now that so many people went and got rid of themselves so the town could have power. But that isn't the worst best of it...

The best of it is the colossal pine tree that has grown in the front yard overnight. Yes, overnight. There had been no trees the day before and now? A tree that rivals the town tree stands in the yard.

But it's still in the process of being decorated by dozens of little green plant men, who are clambering around the branches, hanging baubles, lights, and tinsel with Amaimon supervises from below. The demon points out bare spots or waves at things he wants moved a little to the left between decimating the box of candy canes that will never, ever make it onto that pine.

[Oh how he missed his pointy ears and long sharp nails and... well. All of it. Just be glad it's a formality for demons of his tier to hide their tail or Charles would be dealing with that as well.]

By watching all the other houses decorate. From the tree they put up in the middle of the town. The holiday shows on the television. [Isn't it obvious, Charles? C'mon, man, pay attention.] Because I am trying to understand human customs. They are curious things...

[And one or two of the tree decorating things stop to look back at him, even wave at him. They're awfully friendly looking little plant dudes.]

[not the tail no okay it'd probably all fit in rather smoothly with his overall image...

he makes a face at the mention of human customs, finding the grand race of outdoing one's neighbors in festive shenanigans nothing but pointless.]

They're curious, but most of them are also idiotic and not worth paying attention to. I'm afraid this would be one of those instances. [but at least his beautiful yard isn't quite at the eye-searing level that requires glasses yet...

the tree things are his favorite so far, and he half-waves back up at them.]
What are those?

I don't know. I find the tree part quaint, but I don't think they should cut them down. Trees are better alive.

[Which is exactly what this giant pine is, roots and all.

And the yard is only saved from that level of ohgodwhy due to the 1950s lacking the giant singing snowmen inflatables and santa-hatted pink lawn flamingos.
]

Those? They are my Greenmen.

[his yard would be a christmas monstrosity...

but he does bend over to check if the tree is rooted or not, looking a little surprised to see that yep, it is.]

What will you do once the holidays are over? Most humans throw their trees to the compost after the festivities end, you know. [he is a little worried they're going to have a giant permanent christmas tree for the rest of the days in mayfield now...]

Greenmen, hm? They look rather useful.

[No, it would be beautiful. The most beautiful yard in the universe.]

I think I will keep it. [whether he means to leave the decorations up or not is yet to be seen.] Oh, yes, they are. They are very good at growing things.

[He's proud of his littlest kin, even if they don't like violence.]

[it would be able to be seen from the universe, that's a given.]

Well, the yards look monotonous after a while anyway. I suppose a bit of extra greenery couldn't hurt. [yes, he is giving Amaimon the benefit of the doubt and assuming that the decorations will be gone by the end of the holiday season. when will he learn.]

Is that what their main purpose is? [oh, he kind of wants to hold one... reaching up....]

[Oh Charles, never give your weird friends that benefit. You are setting yourself up for massive disappointment all the time and forever.

That tree is only going to get worse than this. It really, really is.
]

It is. The greenmen can grow any plant from their bodies. Normally they are in gardens, but there is too much snow for that right now.

[The nearest one isn't paying attention to the reaching hand, trying to hang a bit of lights on a branch... which is why is squeaks in surprise when it's picked up.]

[he'll just become increasingly more alarmed by it as the days go on and it slowly becomes so heavy under the weight of Christmas ornaments that it bends in two...

but at least the greenmen are cute okay that is a plus. he's surprisingly careful in his handling of the tiny creature, pulling it away from the tree just a tiny bit at a time in case it wished to hop back at any point.]

That's a rather spectacular ability, all things considered. Are there many creatures of this nature where you're from?

[Nonsense. The greenmen would never let the tree split!

...they'll just grow a second one!

Anyway, the one he has in hand right now calms down after the initial surprise and looks back curiously at Charles.
]

There are many different kinds of spirits and demons from Gehenna, but I do not know of any others who do what my kin do.

[oh no he will literally have a forest in his yard by the next holiday season....

the curious look he's receiving is met with an equally curious one, and with his free hand he reaches up to pat its rather poofy-looking head.]

Is that so? [and because he has nooo idea how demon politics work, he settles on a simple question:] Are these the only of your kin?

[It'll be beautiful.]

Yes. Likely as many kinds as there are beasts on Assiah. [many many demons, errywhere.] No. The greenmen are only one kind. I have others.

[The greenman in hand chirps happily at Charles in response to the headpat. For something related to Amaimon, you would expect something with more thorns and teeth, but no, you get an adorable plant golem instead.]

[he will cry many a bitter tear]

That's a fascinating world, I'd think. [definitely more varied than his own at least... yeeeeah humans and chiropterans, humans and chiropterans everywhere.

and neither of them are as adorable as the greenman, which he seems to have already taken a liking to. PRETTY ADORABLE and pleasant, wow it's like the exact opposite of Amaimon.]

Have you any of the others here, or are these the only that have been returned to you? [sticking this one on his shoulder... it can have a free ride til it gets bored and decides to go back to making the tree a Christmas monstrosity.]

From: [identity profile] ceilingdemonis.livejournal.com
[Don't cry, emo vampire. Maybe he will let you decorate one of them.]

A very fun world, too. [Lots of big things to fight, because what else would there be to do there?] These are the only ones so far. I went and traded for them, since I wanted the best tree.

[The greenman plops down to sit on the shoulder he's been placed upon, not in any particular rush to get back to the tree. There's more than enough other greenmen working on it.]

[that will undoubtedly solve all of their problems, yes.]

I'm a little envious. [no he's just jealous that you get a bunch of cute green mutants to help you with your gardens he wants some. they already have the whole 'big things to fight' going on in his own world and he does not find it very amusing.

they also don't fit neatly on his shoulders and he can't pat them without risking his fingers, so it is just a lose-lose situation all around.]

Well, I do believe you're one of the only people working on yard decorations in general. That title might belong to you by default, you know? [take pride in your landslide victory!!]

Envious? Of what? Is your world boring? [It would be awful to be from a boring world, but if it has things like Horace in it... That can't be so bad!

'cause, cute and tiny is nice and all, but you could never fight a greenman. Well. Okay, you could fight one, but they would go hide behind a million plants if you did!
]

Really? [Oh Charles. Don't tell him things like that, he's disappointed now.] Hmm. That's too bad. At least my yard is better than the drone ones...

[But that isn't a feat by any means.]
